For the 39th consecutive year, Bicycle Ride Across Nebraska (BRAN) is offering bicyclists the opportunity to take part in a week-long bike ride celebration of our state’s scenic beauty. BRAN uses all profits to provide scholarships to Nebraska high school seniors to attend Nebraska trade schools, colleges and universities. There are no paid employees and it is run completely by volunteers who use personal vacation to work for the week on BRAN.
The theme of this year’s BRAN is “A Tale of Two Trails” which will provide the option to ride on the Cowboy Trail as well as on paved highway shoulders through the scenic sandhills of northern Nebraska. The ride will start in Chadron on Sunday, June 2nd and overnight in Gordon, Cody, Ainsworth, Atkinson, Neligh, Clarkson and end in Fremont on Saturday, June 8th. This year’s BRAN will again have 3 and 4-day options to ride as well as the traditional 7 day tour.
BRAN is a registered non-profit corporation founded in 1980 as “a bicycle ride by bicyclists, for bicyclists”. BRAN is a non-competitive tour providing a safe and supported ride for bicyclists of all ability levels. Operated entirely by volunteers, including members of the Omaha Pedalers Bicycle Club, BRAN has visited all counties in Nebraska and most communities. BRAN limits the number of participants to 600.
